Who knew going to PP on a seemingly regular Sunday would turn into a star-studded event?
Definitely not the unsuspecting individuals who filed downstairs after mass on Sunday December 15th, only to find that lunch that day was being served up by a certain 21-year old, Lithuanian-born, #17 wearing Toronto Raptor, Jonas Valanciunas.
Indeed, the NBA star lent a helping hand in the kitchen, serving up some delicious cepelinai – a Lithuanian national dish made of meat and potatoes – making sure his fans and supporters were fed. And support he has received from Lithuanian Torontonians since joining the Toronto Raptors in 2011, especially now in the wake of being one of only 120 players selected for the NBA All-Star ballot for a chance to play in the NBA All-Star game in New Orleans on February 16th. All-Star Balloting gives fans around the world the opportunity to vote daily for their favourite players as starters for the NBA All-Star Game. For the second year in a row, NBA fans can vote via social media networks, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. This year, local Lithuanians have taken matters into their own hands to ensure the young star has a fighting chance, by spearheading awareness movements, and organizing an awareness committee in the hopes of racking up well-deserved votes for JV.
That clever JV – showing gratitude to his myriad of supporters by appealing to their taste buds. And with cepelinai as his method, his votes will surely be skyrocketing.
