6th Lithuanian Heritage Day with the Toronto „Raptors” and Jonas Valanciunas

The Canadian-Lithuanian Sports Federation & The Toronto Raptors presented fans with the 6th Lithuanian Heritage Day on Sunday, December 20th, 2015.

Hundreds of Lithuanian fans from Toronto and surrounding areas came to the Air Canada Centre on Sunday to cheer on Toronto Raptor Jonas Valanciunas and his team, as they took on the Sacramento „Kings.” Unfortunately, Jonas didn’t make an appearance on the court, as he’s been sidelined for the past 15 games after sustaining a fractured metacarpal in his left hand.

Local Lithuanians were given an incentive to attend the game by being offered discounted tickets at various price points. Attendees were also given special edition t-shirts with the Raptor’s logo in Lithuanian colours (yellow, green, and red), to commemorate Lithuanian Heritage Day.

At half-time, fans were treated to a performance by the Toronto folk dance ensemble “Gintaras” – showcasing traditional Lithuanian costume and dance.

Sadly, the „Raptors” weren’t able to pull off a win on Sunday night. After a slow and scattered start, the „Kings” swiftly developed a sizable lead (at one point leading by more than 20 pts) and the „Raptors” simply failed to catch up to their rival team.

After the game, as promised, Jonas came out to greet his mob of adoring fans. He tested fan knowledge with a series of questions about his beginnings and career. Correct answers were rewarded with prizes. Fans also had a chance to ask the star their own questions, and pose for photos.

As with past Lituanian Heritage Days, fans experienced a fun evening with Jonas Valanziunas and were able to show their support for both him and his Toronto team.
