Former Cleveland Cavaliers center Zydrunas Ilgauskas will continue to make his presence felt on the local basketball scene after news broke that he will be an assistant coach on the St. Ignatius High School boys’ basketball team.
Ilgauskas, one of the most popular players in Cavs’ history and the franchise leader in games played, rebounds and blocked shots, will work 2 to 3 days a week with the Wildcats. The Wildcats are one of the premier high school athletic programs in Cleveland. Their football program is nationally known, and their basketball team usually impresses. The Wildcats won their only basketball state championship in 2001.
Zydrunas has stayed around the north shore after marrying a local, and began working with the Cavs front office when Chris Grant was the GM back in 2012. The Cavs retired his No. 11 in 2014.
